Read this carefully before you start using this product because it contains important information for you
RetaPic contains the active substance Retatrutide.
It is a Triple-Agonist Action: Mimics GLP-1and GIP to slow digestion and boost insulin, while activating glucagon to increase energy expenditure (calorie burning) and break down fat.
Do not use if you are allergic to Retaglutide.
Warnings and precautions
This medicine is not an insulin and should not be used if you have type 1 diabetes (a condition where your body does not produce any insulin) and is not a substitute for insulin.
Effects on the digestive system
During treatment with this medicine, you may feel sick (nausea) or be sick (vomiting), or have diarrhoea. These side effects can cause dehydration (loss of fluids). It is important that you drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. This is especially important if you have kidney problems. If you have severe and on-going pain in the stomach area, see a doctor straight away as this could be a sign of acute pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas).
Hypoglycaemia
Combining a sulfonylurea or an insulin with this medicine might increase the risk of getting low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia).
Diabetic eye disease (retinopathy)
If you have diabetic eye disease and are using insulin, this medicine may lead to a worsening of your vision, and this may require treatment.
Children and adolescents
This medicine is not recommended for children.
Other medicines
This medicine should not interfere with other medicines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby stop using this medicine.
Sodium content
This medicine is essentially sodium free.
How to use
The starting dose is 1mg to 2.5mg every week. The maximum does is 10mg every week.
This is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Do not inject it into a vein or muscle. The best places to give the injection are the front of your thighs, the front of your waist (abdomen), or your upper arm.
When to use
You should use this medicine once a week on the same day each week if possible. You can give yourself the injection at any time of the day – regardless of meals.
Do not take extra to make up for a forgotten dose.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Serious side effects
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
Complications of diabetic eye disease (retinopathy) – you should inform your doctor if you experience eye problems, such as changes in vision, during treatment with this medicine.
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
Inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis) which could cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away. You should see a doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1 000 people)
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions, angioedema). You should seek immediate medical help and inform your doctor straight away if you get symptoms such as breathing problems, swelling of face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty swallowing and a fast heartbeat.
Other side effects
Feeling sick and Diarrhoea which usually goes away over time.
Being sick and low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). The warning signs of low blood sugar may come on suddenly. They can include: cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, feeling sick (nausea) or very hungry, changes in vision, feeling sleepy or weak, feeling nervous, anxious or confused, difficulty concentrating or shaking.
Fast pulse.
Injection site reactions such as bruising, pain, irritation, itching and rash.
Allergic reactions like rash, itching or hives.
A delay in the emptying of the stomach.
How to store
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pen label.
Store in a refrigerator. Do not freeze and do not use if it has been frozen.
Protect from light.
During use you can keep the pen with the cap on for 6 weeks when stored at a temperature of 24 or below, though Ideally in a refrigerator.
Contents of the pack & other information
The injector pen is a pre-filled disposable syringe pen for multiple injections.
The pen allows for administration of doses of: 1mg, 2,5mg, 5mg and 10mg.
One pen contains 3 ml of solution.
The pen is designed for use with 4mm 32g needles. Remove the needle after use and always use a new needle for each injection.
The pen should only be used by one person.
Used pens must be disposed safely, should not be reused and cannot be refilled.
Do not use a damaged pen and do not attempt to repair a pen.
Do not wash the syringe pen and clean with a damp cloth.
Instructions
Preparing the Syringe Pen for Use
1. Check the name on the pen label. You must ensure that the pen contains the correct medicine. This is especially important if you are using more than one injectable medicine.
2. Hold the pen with one hand and remove the cap from the pen by pulling it with the other hand.
3. Make sure that the solution in the pen is clear and transparent. Look through the window of the pen cartridge holder.
Note: If the solution is cloudy or there are foreign impurities, this syringe pen cannot be used.
4. Take a new needle and remove the protective sticker from the outer case.
Note: Use a new needle with each injection to minimize the risk of injecting the wrong dose of the medicine, infection, and tissue trauma.
5. Using the outer needle case position it exactly on the needle screw holder. Tighten it securely so that the needle fits tightly onto the pen.
6. Remove the outer needle case, but do not throw it away. You will need it after completing the injection to safely remove the needle from the pen.
7. Remove the Inner case and discard. Hold the pen with the needle pointing up. Lightly tap the cartridge holder with your finger to release any air bubbles. Fine bubbles are acceptable.
Note: The needle becomes visible when inner case is removed.
When installing the needle on the pen a drop of the medicine may appear, which is normal. It is still necessary to check he passage (flow) of the medicine through the needle if the pen is used for the first time.
Checking the Passage of the Medicine through the Needle
8. Before using the pen for the first time, it is necessary to check the passage (flow) of the medicine through the needle. Scroll the dosage selector to the check symbol “- -” for checking the flow of the medicine so that the symbol coincides with the dose indicator.
Note: If the dosage selector has missed the required symbol, rotate it in the opposite direction to correct the position back to the check symbol.
9. Hold the pen with the needle up, press the start button and hold it down. The dosage selector will click and the value will move to “0” in the dosage window. Then release the start button. Drops of the medicine should appear at the end of the needle.
Note: If after checking the flow of the medicine, a drop does not appear at the end of the needle, it is necessary to repeat steps, but no more than 6 times. If a drop of the medicine does not appear, it is necessary to replace the needle and repeat the steps. If a drop of solution does not appear, you must discard the pen and use a new one.
Before using the syringe pen for the first time, you should be sure that the needle passes the medicine well and that a drop of solution appears at the end of the needle. This ensures that the medicine is administered. If the needle is damaged or blocked, no drop of solution will appear and the medicine will not be injected, even if the dosage selector and dose counter move.
Setting the Dose
Before each injection, it is necessary to check what dose of the medicine (mg) using the dosage selector and dose indicator. Do not rely on the clicks of the pen; you should not count them.
10. Turn the dose selector until it shows the required dose. The selected dose must be exactly opposite the dose indicator.
Note: If the dose was selected incorrectly, rotate the dose selector forward or backward to set the correct dose.
11. To determine the remaining amount of the medicine, it is necessary to use the dose counter: turning the dose selector until the dose counter stops.
Important: Do not use the pen if there is not enough medicine left to administer the full dose. Use a new syringe pen.
Administration of the Medicine
12. In one continuous motion, insert the needle under the skin.
13. Make sure the dosing window is within the line of sight. Press and hold the start button until the value “0” aligns with the dose indicator. When the button is pressed you may hear or feel a click.
Do not touch the dose counter in the dosage window with your fingers - this may interrupt the injection.
14. Hold the needle under the skin after the dose counter has returned to “0” and slowly count to 6.
Note: If the needle is removed from the skin early, you may see the medicine leak out of the needle. In this case, an incomplete dose of the medicine will be administered.
15. Carefully remove the needle from under the skin.
Note: If blood appears at the injection site, lightly press a cotton swab onto the injection site. Do not massage the injection site. After the injection is completed you may see a drop of solution at the end of the needle. This is normal and does not affect the dose of the medicine that is administered.
Needle Disposal
IMPORTANT: After each injection of the medicine, always remove the needle from the syringe pen. This can prevent needles from getting clogged, becoming dirty, becoming infected, leaking solution, and giving the wrong dose of medication.
It is necessary to store and transport the syringe pen without a needle.
16. After completing the injection, carefully push the outer case onto the needle until it stops.
17. Unscrew the needle and discard it along with the outer case.
18. Put on the cap of the pen and store the pen until next use.
Note: When disposing of used needles, follow local regulations, rules and regulations for handling potentially infectious materials.
